A 4 stringed resonator guitar, which has a striking twangy sound, almost like a banjo! Very lightweight and easy to play. It is a popular choice for bluegrass and blues music.
The first evidence for instruments made out of cigar boxes dates to around 1850 AD. After the stock market crash of 1929, they became popular again. Musical instruments were beyond the means of most people, but with an old cigar box, a piece of broom handle and a couple of wires from the screen door, a guitar was born!
Ours is tuned in Chicago tuning, which is the same as the highest 4 strings of a classical guitar.
